How to incorporate team-building activities into your corporate wine tour in 2022

Corporate wine tour stops at Kin Vineyard in Carp, OntarioEngaged employees socialize with their teammates over wine tasting: This team had worked together for two years but because of the pandemic had never actually met in person. Guests enjoyed a boxed lunch on board the bus due to a tight tour schedule, then a private tour of KIN Vineyards and guided wine tasting along with individual charcuterie boards, followed by an orchard tour and cider tasting at Farmgate Cider.

Celebrating our fifth anniversary this season, La Vida Local Food + Wine Tours offers guided bus tours to Instagram-worthy vineyards, craft breweries, distilleries, and cideries in the national capital region.

Post-COVID, we are seeing an uptick in corporate bookings for our food and wine tours as companies seek ways to recognize employees and organize fun team-building activities that adults truly enjoy.

What to expect on a corporate wine tour

We will introduce you to this emerging wine region, along with the local spirits, ciders and signature brews being crafted out of the rocky Ottawa Valley terroir. Suitable for groups of up to 50 guests, our tours include transportation on a luxury air-conditioned motor coach, the services of a knowledgeable guide, tastings and food pairings at two to three venues, along with the opportunity to shop/support local farms and artisan makers.

We go to great lengths to showcase the best of the region's unique offerings like Dairy Distillery's Vodkow, Jabulani's Jeripigo, a fortified white wine, and local wines crafted from cold-climate hybrid grape varietals including Marquette, Frontenac and Petit-Perle.

Food offerings – ranging from cheese and charcuterie to wood-fired pizza and baked goods – are provided at most tour stops by our awesome partners, and snacks and cold drinks are provided on the bus. Dietary restrictions are also readily accommodated with advance notice.

Incorporating team-building activities into your corporate wine tour

Owned and operated by lifelong Ottawa residents who know the region inside and out, it is easy for us to build creative and enjoyable team-building activities into a traditional corporate food and wine tour. Options include problem-solving group activities like escape rooms and trust-building activities like river rafting.

Contracted to organize a six-hour corporate tour, during a four-day training conference held in a downtown hotel, we knew our guests from across Canada would benefit from fresh air and enjoy a unique view of the Parliament Buildings from a cool (literally!) perspective, so we took them rafting on the Ottawa River. After they had built up an appetite, we transported them to Kichesippi Beer, a local neighbourhood brewery in Bells Corners, which celebrates all things riverine. Ravenous guests were welcomed with charcuterie and flights of beer. To encourage mingling we arranged guided tours of the brewery and lawn games on the patio. Dinner was provided by on-site food trucks, neatly addressing dietary preferences and restrictions. Happy guests received a parting gift of locally crafted beer, gluten-free cider, locally roasted coffee or Ontario wine to take home.
